Equality at Ravenbank

At Ravenbank Primary School, we are committed to creating an inclusive school community where every child and adult is treated with dignity, fairness and respect. We celebrate difference and are ambitious for all pupils, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in school life, achieve well and feel a strong sense of belonging.

Our approach to equality is rooted in our school values of Friendship, Respect, Perseverance and Trust. We want pupils to understand that people may have different backgrounds, beliefs, families, identities, abilities and experiences, and that these differences should be understood, respected and valued.

As part of this work, we use No Outsiders to help pupils learn about equality, diversity, inclusion and respectful relationships in an age-appropriate way. Through carefully chosen books, discussion and curriculum opportunities, children learn that everyone belongs in our school community and that nobody should experience discrimination or exclusion because of who they are.

We actively promote equality through our curriculum, assemblies, relationships, policies and everyday practice. We also teach pupils about the protected characteristics within the Equality Act 2010 and help them develop the knowledge, confidence and empathy they need to contribute positively to modern Britain.

Our commitment to equality includes:

• removing barriers to learning and participation;

• making reasonable adjustments for disabled pupils;

• challenging discrimination, prejudice and discriminatory language;

• promoting positive relationships between people from different backgrounds;

• ensuring that pupils see diversity represented positively within the curriculum;

• listening to pupils and families and responding to individual needs; and

• regularly reviewing our practice and equality objectives to identify where further action is needed.

Equality at Ravenbank is not treated as a standalone subject or an occasional event. It is part of the culture we aim to create every day: a school where children feel safe, respected, represented and valued, and where there are no outsiders.
