Curriculum Expeditions
Every term, a new learning journey begins...
Our curriculum is delivered through termly expeditions, which are in-depth, interdisciplinary projects designed to deepen learning. Each expedition culminates in a high-quality product or performance for an audience beyond the classroom. Expeditions are not just about acquiring knowledge, but by making learning public and authentic, pupils see the relevance of their work and are motivated to engage deeply. An expedition values pupil voice, community engagement and purposeful learning.
Expedition Design
Teachers design expeditions to:
Begin with a clear final product or performance, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their learning and make creative choices.
Allow sufficient time for reflection, redrafting, and improvement, with support from success criteria, rubrics, and anchor charts.
Integrate subjects like history, geography, science, art, and English where authentic connections enhance learning, while teaching subjects like maths, languages, and physical education discretely to ensure rigor and skill development.
Curriculum Leadership
The curriculum leader ensures expeditions align with the National Curriculum, guaranteeing comprehensive coverage of all statutory requirements. Subject leaders create end-point documents to guide teachers in planning expeditions that meet these expectations.
Building Knowledge and Skills
Our curriculum is sequenced to build knowledge systematically, ensuring children consolidate and connect prior learning to deepen their understanding and improve retention.
Impact
Our exciting and carefully designed curriculum ensures pupils:
Acquire a deep body of knowledge and skills over time, making meaningful connections to prior learning.
Leave Ravenbank School with a secure understanding of academic content across all subjects.
Develop as socially, morally, and culturally responsible individuals, ready to make positive contributions to their communities.
Grow into confident, resilient individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the next stages of their education and life.
Through their experiences, children leave Ravenbank not only with strong academic achievements but also with the personal qualities and values to thrive as lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
We are currently in the final stages of planning our expeditions for 2025 to 2026. We will share the final plan with parents and carers in September 2025.
